Renault: Alonso Suffering No Injuries

Spaniard Fernando Alonso escaped injury following a horrible crash during today's Brazilian Grand Prix at the Interlagos circuit.

"Although he has suffered no physical injuries, doctors decided to transport him to hospital for further examination," said Renault in a statement after the race.

21-year old Alonso crashed very heavily first into a wheel left from an earlier accident by Jaguar's Mark Webber and then into the tyre barriers, his Renault disintegrating after the impact.

The Spaniard, whose accident forced the race to be stopped, climb out of the car on his own but was taken away on a stretcher with a suspected bruised leg.

Despite his crash, Alonso scored his second consecutive podium finish, moving to third place in the drivers' standings. Renault retained second place in the Constructors' Championship after teammate Jarno Trulli completed another strong race for the French squad by finishing in eighth.

"I'm very sorry for Fernando," said Trulli. "However, I know that he is alright and I hope he will recover quickly."
