Red Bull F1 team expects Daniel Ricciardo's fortunes to change

Red Bull boss Christian Horner says good fortune will swing back in Daniel Ricciardo's favour after a disappointing run of form

Red Bull boss Christian Horner says good fortune will swing back in Daniel Ricciardo's favour after a disappointing run of results in Formula 1.

A strategy call robbed him of victory in Spain two months ago while a pit mix-up two weeks later in Monaco cost him another.

Last time out in the British Grand Prix, Ricciardo was unlucky with the virtual safety car, which allowed Force India's Sergio Perez to get ahead of him during the pitstops.

Ricciardo has now been outscored in three of the last four races by new team-mate Max Verstappen, but Horner expects his fortunes to turn around.

"Daniel is dealing with it very well," he said. "It's just the run of the green.

"He's going to have a couple of Sundays come up where everything will fall his way, I'm sure. It's swings and roundabouts.

"Daniel is a class driver, he has demonstrated already this year that he is at the top of his game.

"No team-mate likes being the second of the cars to finish. I'm sure he'll respond positively."

Horner believes the rivalry between Verstappen and Ricciardo is a good thing for the outfit.

Verstappen had to up his game against Ricciardo

"We have two very strong drivers in the cars, they are pushing each other hard which is great to see," he said.

"It's a positive thing in the team and there is no animosity or anything - it's just two guys going flat-out going for it.

"It's very healthy for us.

"There is a confidence in the team that you can see is growing, the car is improving."
