Ralf Schumacher Q&A
Ralf Schumacher's season got off to a mixed start in Australia, for having done the difficult bit and out-qualified team mate Juan Pablo Montoya, he was eliminated in the first corner shunt. It remains to be seen how the two drivers compare in a full, uninterrupted qualifying session, but the German has at least laid down a marker, and battle will be resumed in Malaysia. Adam Cooper spoke to the German star
"It's stronger, otherwise we would be here in the old car, and it simply has a stronger, lighter engine, and aerodynamically it's better. That's enough, anyway."
"To be third in the first qualifying of the year is not so bad, really. Certainly there is a gap between us and Ferrari, which we have to close up fairly soon, and we are working on it really hard. We have to get everything together and develop everything as quickly as possible in Grove, if we can, and then we'll see."
"Certainly we had some problems with it. It worked differently from the old car, basically, so we had to learn about it. Luckily we did a lot of testing and got on top of it, and that's why we are relatively happy here."
"We have the right treatment with McLaren joining us, which I see only positives in, since we have the call anyway."
"Yeah, that's good, it leaves no excuse for us, and it doesn't for Michelin. I think that's what you're looking for if you want to win races, you get the job done and you have a clear result of what's going on."
"I started switching off quite early, because we've never had a problem really. It's not that we're the best of friends beside the car, but we exchange all the information we need. We never had a problem on the circuit, so it's a perfect relationship I must say."
"It's always nice to out-qualify your team-mate, but life is not depending on it!"
"I think Juan had a strong race, and I'm pretty pleased with that. We scored six points as a team. It's just that we are very far away from Ferrari."
