Rain Ruins Silverstone Test Again - Day Three

The weather ruined the penultimate day of testing at the Silverstone circuit, where the teams present were unable to carry out any significant work.

The weather ruined the penultimate day of testing at the Silverstone circuit, where the teams present were unable to carry out any significant work.

A heavy rain throughout the day flooded the British circuit, the session even being red-flagged as there was too much water standing on the track. Brazilian test driver Antonio Pizzonia finished on top of the times with his Williams FW26, although he completed only 14 laps.

Pizzonia outpaced his Williams teammate Ralf Schumacher, who was also in action at Silverstone. The McLaren-Mercedes team worked again with three drivers, but only managed to complete 39 laps between them, with Alexander Wurz the fastest of the three.

Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa replaced David Coulthard at the wheel of one of the MP4-19 cars, while Finn Kimi Raikkonen was again driving, covering only 10 laps.

Renault drivers Jarno Trulli and Franck Montagny wrapped up the three-day test for the French squad, who were unable to complete their programme due to the rain over the last two days. Frenchman Montagny covered 11 laps, while Trulli completed just an installation lap before calling it a day.

"Our session at Silverstone concluded with a second lost day owing to the poor weather," said Renault's executive director of engineering Pat Symonds.

"Overall, it has been a frustrating week: we managed to work on the tyres and aerodynamics on Tuesday but of course, it is particularly inconvenient to lose two days of running at an important stage of our development of the R24."
