Rain cancels first practice
Saturday at Spa-Francorchamps has dawned with heavy skies and incessant rain that has delayed the start of free practice as the medical helicopter cannot fly in such heavy cloud. The delay was such that the first session has been cancelled
Our trackside reporter says it has barely stopped raining since yesterday's Formula 3000 qualifying session. Stewards are checking the conditions every 15 minutes, but it could be a while before the cars hit the track.
"Our forecast says it will stay overcast until at least the afternoon," said Toyota's Mike Gascoyne. "We'll just have to sit and wait. It would be nice for all the people who got soaked in their tents last night to see some F1 cars going around! But if the medical helicopter can't fly, we won't drive. Hopefully it will brighten up later."
Incidentally, test driver Ryan Briscoe is back in the Toyota garage today following his check-up at hospital following his big crash at Eau Rouge yesterday. Gascoyne reports that the kerbs at the Bus Stop, where Briscoe picked up his puncture, have been altered overnight.
