Raikkonen Targets British GP Win

Kimi Raikkonen will start Sunday's British Grand Prix from pole position after making McLaren look like potential winners again after a stuttering start to the season.

Kimi Raikkonen will start Sunday's British Grand Prix from pole position after making McLaren look like potential winners again after a stuttering start to the season.

The Finn's third career pole was his and the Mercedes-powered team's first since the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis last September.

"It's nice to be in first place, especially since the start of the season has been very difficult with not really finishing races or scoring points," said last year's championship runner-up after the session.

"We'll try to win...this car's much stronger in the race than the old one."

Sunday will be the second race for McLaren's heavily-revised MP4-19B car. Raikkonen's time of 1:18.233 was 0.072 quicker than Ferrari's Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, last year's race winner from pole position who will line up alongside him on the front row.

Raikkonen's teammate David Coulthard will start from seventh position.

"It was not an easy qualifying due to the windy conditions," said the Scot. "I lost a lot of time through Becketts and as a result I was not quick in the middle sector. We have chosen the right tyres, but as this is a high-speed circuit where you need a good result in qualifying and I'm a little disappointed with my performance.

"However, I will go flat out tomorrow and do my very best to score as many points a possible."
