Raikkonen says he will need a miracle

Kimi Raikkonen says he will need a miracle to win this year's title, although the Finn is still hoping to repeat last season's feat

The reigning world champion now lies 21 points adrift of Lewis Hamilton, and 20 behind teammate Massa, after not scoring a point in the last three races.

But after overcoming a 17-point deficit to win the title in the last two races last season, Raikkonen is still not ruling out a repeat this year.

"This sport can be really hard to digest, you push, you give it all, but it won't go in the right direction," he said. "You don't have to be Einstein to understand that this is not the right way to fight for the title.

"It's not over yet, but now it will take a miracle, one that makes lightning strike twice. I will never forget what happened last year and I want to repeat it again."

Raikkonen is determined not to let his recent results get him down and says he will still try to win each of the four remaining Grands Prix.

"Things are definitely not going my way, but that won't lower my spirit or my determination. I want to try to win again this season," he added. "You never know what will happen in a race and you can't make any programs.

"The team has two goals to reach and they will give their best that they will reach them, and I will give my best myself, as usual."

The Finn complained of a lack of grip in the race at Monza and fears more of the same if there is more rain in the remaining Grands Prix.

"In the Italian GP we had the same problem we've had a couple of times before, under certain circumstances, especially with low temperatures and rain, we've got hardly any grip," he said.

"I didn't lose my driving ability in the wet, but when you don't have any grip there's hardly anything you can do. When the track started to dry off, the car was very strong and I could attack in every corner. It was as if a light had been turned on, but by then it was already too late.

"Now it seems as if it's going to rain at every outstanding race, we had enough water at Monza already. We have to try to solve this problem for the final stage of the season."
