Raikkonen laments lack of top speed
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen said a lack of top speed hindered his chances of fighting for victory at the British Grand Prix
The Finn returned to the podium at Silverstone, only his third of the season, after starting from the front row alongside Fernando Alonso.
The Renault driver, however, proved unreachable in the race, leading from start to finish.
Raikkonen, who lost second place to Michael Schumacher during his second pitstop, said third was the best he could have done.
"We were a bit too slow on straight line to challenge anyone," said Raikkonen. "I got quite close to Fernando after the safety car on the first lap, but I could not pass him and I was in front of Michael and he got close, but we did not hit each other.
"We weren't quick enough so there was not much we could have done. I did the best, third was the maximum."
Unable to match the pace of Alonso, Raikkonen had to watch his back in the final moments of the race, when Giancarlo Fisichella got very close.
"The car wasn't perfect. I lost the rear end a little bit at the end of the race and got lapped traffic in third sector and Fisi was very quick through there. I am happy with the third place."
McLaren completed a double finish in the points thanks to Juan Pablo Montoya's sixth place.
