Finn Kimi Raikkonen was disappointed with his performance in qualifying for the British Grand Prix after being hit by mechanical problems that hampered his progress.
The McLaren driver was forced to switch to the spare car after his racing machine suffered a sudden loss of power during his second qualifying run at the Silverstone circuit today. Raikkonen, however, managed to outpace his teammate David Coulthard.
"A busy session indeed," said Raikkonen after posting the fifth quickest time. "I'm a bit disappointed because I think I could have done a quicker time in the race car - not enough to have improved my qualifying position but at least I would have been closer to the other cars in front. Anyway we will see what happens tomorrow."
Scot Coulthard, winner of the British Grand Prix twice in the past, finished right behind his teammate in sixth position, completing an all-McLaren third row. Coulthard, however, is relying on the Mercedes-powered car's race pace to enjoy a stronger Sunday.
"Third row is what we expected," Coulthard said. "So far this year our race performance has been better than qualifying, so I'm looking forward to racing in front of my home crowd."
