Qualifying: Hakkinen snatches pole

Mika Hakkinen snatched pole position on his final lap in Monaco today

Michael Schumacher had been fastest for much of the qualifying hour in the Ferrari's spare car, having damaged his own car in practice.

But, the World Champion put in a flying lap in the last minute to pip Schumacher. Afterwards, Hakkinen said, 'It was a brilliant end to the session, a great effort from all the team.'

David Coulthard moved up to third at the death, and is joined on the second row of the grid by Eddie Irvine.
