Q & A with Sebastien Buemi

Sebastien Buemi finished his first day of testing for Red Bull Racing at Jerez yesterday. Autosport.com caught up with the Swiss driver at the end of the day for a chat

Q: You have done two straight-line tests with Red Bull Racing this year, but this was the first time you were testing on a race circuit. How did it go?

Sebastien Buemi: "It was the first time on a real track, so it was a familiarisation in the beginning, and quite a long run - 10 laps to get used to the car. I had a good feeling this morning, and I could feel I was going faster and faster, I was quite comfortable with the car, the choice of tyres was OK, and I think I can improve on Thursday.

"It was nice to be driving corners, not only on straight lines! It is difficult to know if you are fast or not, because I don't know what other guys are doing. We could not complete the full programme, the most important thing was 300km for me - we did 350km, so it was of for the first day"

Q: Are you tired?

Buemi: "I cannot say I am not. In the last run, I would say I started to feel a bit (tired). I think it is a difficult track, and you need to train a lot. At least I know how difficult it is, then it is easier to work once you know how difficult it can be."

Q: Do you know the Jerez track?

Buemi: "I did a test with F3 in the beginning of last year, so it is nearly a year and a half ago. but we were doing the normal corner, not the chicane."

Q: you did drive with your own seat? And you are familiar with all the buttons?

Buemi: "yes, it is my own seat. I was comfortable in the car; I think it is important that this is the case. If you are not well in the cockpit, you get tired quite quickly, like after 10 laps. I had no pain at all.

"I learned the buttons during the shakedowns. I could feel traction control, and what all these buttons do, what they can bring you, when you should use them and not use them. It was a good day just for that."

Q: You drove an F3 car in Mugello, then GP2 in the Nurburgring, and now an F1 car at Jerez. But you'll return to F3 this coming weekend...

Buemi: "Yes, I did Mugello, Nurburgring, and here and Zandvoort - it was difficult not to be tired from all that travelling. I tried to sleep a lot as much as possible and to be at the right place at the right moment.

"I have to concentrate on what I am doing, as GP2 is a bit different from F3, and also F1 as well. I try not to think about what I did last weekend, but think about what I have right in front of me."

Q: when did you find out about this test?

Buemi: "At the end of June, I think. I was very happy. You need to start somewhere. I was a bit nervous this morning but everything went OK. Tomorrow I will have a look at what Webber is doing, talking with engineers, how he is working. Then, on Thursday, I will try to do better job and improve."

Q: Will you have more opportunities to test an F1 car?

Buemi: "Right now, my objective is to do my best to win the title in the F3 Euro Series, which is important. Then, in GP2, I want to be on the podium - even to win races. And after that, if I get a possibility, to come back into F1 again. That will be great."

Q: You already drove an F1 car when you were 15 years old, didn't you?

Buemi: "Yes, in Paul Ricard, but you cannot compare it to the car from today - it is so different.

"I had fun with the Arrows team, but I could not drive a lot. I did 6-7 laps. But this one, today, I had so much more fun; I really felt the car this time."
