Prost saga: Buyers step in
The Formula 1 grid looks set to grow to 12 teams, thanks to administrators in France accepting an offer from unknown buyers for the liquidated Prost Grand Prix team
Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw has admitted that his eponymous company TWR will provide engineering support for the outfit, although he has denied being one of the buyers. The Scot said the Versailles court accepted the offer on Thursday.
Walkinshaw told Reuters: "TWR is going to be supporting the engineering side of it but the principals behind it will announce the whole thing when they're ready.
"There's other people who've done that [bought the team], but we're supporting them with a whole load of the engineering back-up from TWR to get it up and running and do it properly."
He refused to name who the buyers are. "When they are ready they will do it," he said. "I don't want to be drawn into it."
Walkinshaw added that he believed Minardi, owned by Australian entrepreneur Paul Stoddart, made an offer, but were unsuccessful. He also emphasised that his main focus will continue to be Arrows this year.
The deal has created a war of words between Walkinshaw and Stoddart. To read Stoddart's claims click here.
