Pollock quits post as BAR boss
Craig Pollock has announced that he is stepping down as managing director and team principal of British American Racing "to pursue other interests"
Pollock, who founded the Brackley-based team with Adrian Reynard in 1998, entered Formula 1 for the first time with Jacques Villeneuve and Ricardo Zonta in '99. Since then his position at the head of the team has been under pressure numerous times.
"I am extremely proud of what has been achieved at British American Racing," said Pollock. "I believe the foundations have been laid for great success. All the staff have been fantastic to work with and I wish the team every success for the future. For my part I think the time is now right to explore new opportunities."
BAR chairman Kenneth Clarke said: "We are all grateful to Craig for his contribution to the team since its inception. He has been pivotal in enabling BAR to become one of the most successful start-up teams in recent Formula 1 history."
Pollock's decision to quit has placed Jacques Villeneuve's long-term place in the team in doubt, as his mentor Pollock has continued to be a staunch supporter of the former World Champion throughout some difficult times in the last few seasons.
A BAR spokesman said the team intends to announce the identity of Pollock's successor at the new car's launch at Brackley tomorrow (Tuesday).
