Pizzonia Debuts with Jaguar at Barcelona - Day Three

McLaren driver David Coulthard took over from Austrian tester Alexander Wurz at the top of the timesheets on the third day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, as Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia made his debut with the Jaguar Racing team.

McLaren driver David Coulthard took over from Austrian tester Alexander Wurz at the top of the timesheets on the third day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, as Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia made his debut with the Jaguar Racing team.

Wurz, who had posted the quickest time on the first two days of work at the Spanish circuit, was replaced today by Coulthard, who completed a good session for the Woking-based team, with Briton Darren Turner setting an impressive second fastest time with the second Michelin-shod McLaren despite covering only 14 laps.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve joined the test today for the British American Racing team, setting the third quickest time with the only Bridgestone-shod car at the Catalan circuit. Villeneuve, who was the busiest man with 89 laps completed, was over a second slower than Coulthard.

Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gene continued working for the Grove-based squad, posting the fourth and fifth quickest times respectively. Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa was sixth fastest with the first of the Jaguars on track today, the Catalan slightly outpacing Pizzonia.

The Williams test driver made his debut with the Jaguar squad today as the Milton Keynes outfit continue with the evaluation of young drivers. Brazilian Pizzonia was only around three tenths of a second slower than de la Rosa despite missing part of the morning session due to an engine problem.

Pizzonia will continue testing for Jaguar tomorrow.
