Piquet expected Renault 'hurry-up'

Nelson Piquet says he was not surprised to be given the hurry up by his Renault team after his recent difficulties with the outfit

Renault's sporting director Steve Nielsen told the team's official podcast after Turkey that Piquet must turn his form around to secure his future in F1.

And after a difficult first day of practice for the Monaco Grand Prix, Piquet said he was not surprised that the team are pushing him hard to make improvements.

"It's normal for them to be pushing me, this is the way Renault is," he said. "They like to push the drivers and they think this is better. The driver needs to know how to focus himself, put things aside, and work."

Piquet admitted that he is likely to have struggles for a few more races, thanks to his lack of F1 experience in Monaco and Canada, but is hopeful that matters will improve when the European season resumes at the French GP.

"There will be two or three difficult weekends now. Monaco is always difficult and Canada, I don't know how it is. But after that we start our European season and I think things should come back to normal then."
