British American Racing driver Olivier Panis was, for the second consecutive day, the fastest man on the final session of testing at the Silverstone circuit, where the weather finally allowed the teams to complete their programmes on a dry track.
Panis, fastest on Wednesday, topped the time sheets ahead of the Jordan EJ11 of Jarno Trulli, who finished less than two tenths off a second behind the Frenchman. BAR's test driver Patrick Lemarie completed the top three for the Honda-powered cars.
German Nick Heidfeld replaced team mate Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel of the Sauber C20, as the Swiss team resumed working on their traction control and launch systems, also testing a new aerodynamic package. Heidfeld was pleased with his day's work after setting the fourth quickest time.
"The good weather today gave us a valuable opportunity to do some intensive work on traction control which will stand us in good stead in Austria," said Heidfeld. "The ability to programme the system to suit individual circuits and individual drivers has created a large range of settings, so such test work is essential if we are to get the best out of it.
"I feel we made a lot of progress in this respect today, as well as with our revised aerodynamics and tyre selection."
Arrows' drivers Enrique Bernoldi and Jos Verstappen occupied the final spots on today's session.
