Paddy Power: Look beyond Schuey

Given Michael Schumacher's dominance at the front of the pack, punters again need to look at subtler bets beyond the outright winner to find attractive odds

The Ferrari is the class of the field, no doubt, and 5-1 on Barrichello might seem attractive, except that we know that if Schumacher is on the track, the Brazilian can't/isn't allowed to beat him. The bet therefore is effectively 5-1 on a Schumacher retirement, which is not so good.

But if you do want to go that route, look instead at a specialised bet with Rubens first and a Williams driver second. If you choose Rubens/Montoya to be 1-2, in either order, 10-1 is available, and if you opt for Rubens/Ralf Schumacher, there is a relatively attractive 16-1 to be had.

Either Jenson Button or Jarno Trulli to score points is available at 2-1, which is worth consideration, but it could be a shrewd move to have a look at the Toyotas too. Mika Salo has been qualifying well, except at circuits where the car has to ride high kerbs, such as Imola and Montreal. Canada was therefore tough for him, but Nurburgring should be better. The package is reliable and 11-2 for points is quite generous. Team mate Allan McNish's race pace has been close to the Finn's as well, and there's 10-1 to be head on the Scot to score his first point.
