Ove Andersson Q&A

Toyota did an impressive job in the Malaysian Grand Prix, and both Mika Salo and Allan McNish were candidates for the point that went eventually to Felipe Massa's Sauber. However, the race proved to be a painful part of the new team's learning curve as Salo suffered electrical problems and McNish arrived in the pits to find an unfortunate dearth of tyres awaiting him. Nevertheless both men had run strongly against cars that no one expected Toyota to threaten in the short term. Adam Cooper spoke to team boss Ove Andersson

"It is incredible. I never expected this kind of position, when basically everyone was running we were really just about in the points. I think we can be proud of that."

"We had an electronic problem and the car stopped changing gears and stopped doing all sorts of things. Finally we managed to sort it out."

"We didn't know. We thought we had to retire the car. The guys had a look, and then we sent him out to have another go and try, and we could get it going again."

"Very good. I'm happy for him."

"A **** up is a **** up, that's all there is to it! It was a miscommunication..."

"This is what I kept telling everybody before we started. We are bound to make a **** up, and if it stays with this one, it should be OK!"

"Yes, OK, but we should we happy with what we have achieved, I think, and not speculate about having a point or not."

"Yes, he had a problem in qualifying here, when unfortunately a driveshaft gave up and he had to use the spare car. It wasn't prepared with his settings because we don't have enough parts, so that was a struggle. But he did very well in the race, I must say."

"It was a long time ago. I don't really think it helped, because that was a completely different car. Maybe the guys when they came here understood a little bit the character of the place, what we had to do with cooling and so on, so we knew that kind of problem. I think that we had well under control for the race."

"Brazil is something new and we have a new challenge there! We have to lean against Gustav..."
