No natural successor to Bernie
Bernie Ecclestone has said there is no point in him training a successor to his role as Formula 1 supremo, and believes a replacement will only emerge once he has retired from the job
Ecclestone, who has been at the helm of F1 since the late '80s, says that no-one can fulfil his role while he is still around.
"As long as I'm here, it would be difficult to put anyone around me that would be meaningful," said Ecclestone. "People will step into my shoes as soon as I'm not here, for sure. If you went out today to try and choose a person it would be very difficult.
"Somebody would have to grow into what I do, which has taken me a few years to do that properly. We're looking for a new used car dealer!"
Ecclestone says he has given no thought to retiring, and has previously hinted that he will continue his role until he is physically unable to fulfil his duties.
"The minute I feel I'm not doing what I should be doing, or not delivering, I would be happy to hand my gloves in and stand down."
