No knee-jerk reactions at Renault

Renault's director of engineering Pat Symonds says the French squad will not make any a knee-jerk reactions in order to try and solve their problems

Renault, world champions for the past two years, have endured a disappointing start to the 2007 season, struggling for pace and failing to understand the reason for their poor form.

The French outfit have scored eight points so far, compared to 32 scored by McLaren, currently leading the standings. Last year, Renault had scored 28 points in the first two races.

But despite their lack of form, Symonds says it's important the team take their time in analysis their problems, instead of trying to find a quick fix.

"I think it is obvious to say that it is not a simple diagnosis. The first mistake we could make would be a knee-jerk reaction," said Symonds. "The people working on the situation, are the same people who won two world championships in the last two years.

"We have the same tools, the same methodology, and the same confidence in our ability to succeed. Now, we need time and application to do so - and I have every faith in our capacity to bounce back strongly."

Symonds reckons the only way to get out of their situation is to work extremely hard to find solutions.

"It means asking a lot of questions, and finding answers to them," he added. "We can schedule which questions we ask, and when, but we cannot schedule when we will find the answers.

"It means working diligently and honestly to find the root of our current difficulties.

"And at the same time, we have to keep on developing the car to compete at the track. If we simply throw our resources blindly at fixing the problems, by the time we have resolved them, we will only have fallen behind again."
