Newey work starting to pay off at Red Bull
Red Bull Racing are finally in a position to start making the most of Adrian Newey's impact, judging by the ever improving pace of their RB3 car
That is the view of David Coulthard and team principal Christian Horner, who think the outfit's infrastructure is at last catching up in being able to deliver Newey what he wants.
Matters were hindered earlier this season when wind tunnel data did not collaborate with track performance.
Coulthard told autosport.com: "We have some new developments on the car for Monaco that will turn up just in time for the race, and things are just non-stop at the moment because the ideas are there.
"Adrian has his theories. He is understanding the wind tunnel a lot better now, and he obviously didn't get the right data from that at the beginning of the year.
"Our rate of development is greater than anyone else's at the moment. And I am sure that will continue. It's a good time to be here."
Horner, who saw his team take their first points of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix with Coulthard's fifth placed, is equally upbeat about the team being able to exploit Newey's potential.
"We have got a very aggressive development programme," said Newey. "The production guys are working like hell to keep up with the development rate that Adrian is working at, but they are all doing a fantastic job to achieve that. We will keep pushing until we achieve our targets."
When asked whether he felt the team were now ready to break free from that tight midfield battle, Horner said: "It is a massively competitive midfield, but in Spain we were clearly ahead of the Renaults. Toyota had their own problems and Williams we were clear of, plus we were a step closer to BMW.
"We needed to keep pushing. We still have a lot more potential to come, but we have delivered on our word and made a step forward this weekend."
