Mosley to attend Monaco GP

FIA president Max Mosley has confirmed that he will attend this year's Monaco Grand Prix, as he quelled any suggestions he is deliberately avoiding Formula One at the moment

Mosley has made his first public appearance since details of his private life were revealed by the News of the World, at this weekend's round of the World Rally Championship in Jordan.

And although he cancelled a planned trip to the Bahrain Grand Prix in the immediate wake of the newspaper story, Mosley insists that it is now business as usual and he will go ahead with his traditional visit to Monaco.

"I will be going to the Monaco Grand Prix. I live there," he confirmed to autosport.com at the Jordan WRC event. "I only went to one complete Formula One race last year. That was Monaco, and I was at the complete event because I live there.

"I was only in Spa (last year) because of the McLaren business. I never had any intentions of going to Barcelona (the scene of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix), because I had nothing to do there."

Mosley rubbished talk that his appearance in Jordan was because he was avoiding F1, as he made it clear that the Middle Eastern country's inaugural WRC event made it imperative he was there.

"I came to Jordan because of the political importance of this event - that's why I went to Rally Ireland last year and that's why I go to events. I don't know when I will next go to a WRC event."

Mosley also hit back at reports that the King of Jordan has avoided meeting him this weekend, saying he had in fact had a warm welcome from the country's royal family.

"I was invited to Jordan by the Prince and I accepted. For national newspapers to be writing that I had been snubbed by the King of Jordan is completely dishonest. I was never supposed to meet him. It was never in the programme - so how can that be a snub?

"I was invited by the Prince and I have spent time with him on several occasions - including having dinner with him on Wednesday night. He has been very friendly and welcoming towards me."
