Montoya Quickest at Valencia - Day Five

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya posted the quickest time of the session on the fifth consecutive day of testing at the Valencia circuit in Spain.

The Williams driver continued with the development work of the new BMW-powered FW24 chassis, setting a slightly slower time than Nick Heidfeld's best, set on Wednesday with the Sauber. Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa and his Jaguar team enjoyed a more promising day, finishing behind Montoya, albeit more than eight tenths of a second slower.

Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia and Ralf Schumacher were also in action for the Williams team, being third and fourth quickest respectively, the German driver at the wheel of the FW24. Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who made his debut with the Arrows team on Thursday, set the fifth fastest time despite an incident with his Arrows A23.

The German lost his car's rear wing at high speed and ended up in the gravel trap, fortunately not causing serious damage to his car. However, Frentzen could only complete 20 laps as he was unable to drive in the afternoon.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve was the fastest of the three British American Racing cars present, with teammate Olivier Panis and test driver Anthony Davidson finishing right behind him. Meanwhile, Mark Webber and Alex Yoong finished once more as the slowest drivers, the Malaysian losing some track time after spinning off in the morning.

Williams, BAR and Arrows will continue testing tomorrow.
