Montoya predicts very competitive McLaren

Juan Pablo Montoya believes his McLaren team will be very competitive at this weekend's United States Grand Prix, on the back of a strong showing in Canada

Although the Colombian endured a troubled Canadian Grand Prix, he was happy with the pace of his car before crashing into the wall of champions and retiring. He had early clashed his Willams' Nico Rosberg.

Montoya's teammate Kimi Raikkonen fought for victory until he was hit by a clutch problem which relegated him. The Finn eventually finished in third place.

McLaren are still looking for their first win of the season, and Montoya believes Indianapolis could be it.

"We should be very competitive," Montoya told a news conference. "My car in race trim was very good in Canada and it was a bit annoying not to be able to show the pace. It was a bit frustrating, but that is the way racing goes.

"We were quick everywhere last year. The trend is that we are getting better and better. Last race was a bit of a shame because we had a quick car. I collided with Rosberg but that's one of those racing things that happen".

Montoya, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, reiterated he feels confident about next year, despite not knowing where he will be.

"I don't know yet. When I make that decision you will find out. The difference between myself and other guys I don't make my discussions public. I am pretty comfortable and we will see."
