Montoya penalty harsh, admits Schuey

Michael Schumacher has admitted that Juan Montoya's drive-through penalty was a harsh decision on the Colombian

Montoya was penalised for what race stewards viewed as 'an avoidable accident' with Schumacher at the first corner of the Malaysian Grand Prix.

"We got to the corner I gave him enough room, he understeered and touched me," said Montoya. "I was a bit pissed off because he understeered into me and I was happy that my strategy would have worked for me and I had a chance of winning. I think the penalty was very unfair because I gave him room.

"It was a racing incident but I think they went a bit extreme. I think the penalty was based on what happened in the first race. If anything happens we are going to give you and bullshit like that. This time I had to pay for it," he added.

Schumacher disagreed that Montoya had given him enough room, but conceded that the Colombian's treatment had been harsh.

"If he had opened the door more we wouldn't have touched, simple," said Schumacher. "But I didn't see a drama. He was perhaps judged a bit harshly because we have seen more extreme things where nothing was done. Perhaps we don't have too consistent a system."
