Montoya is No Revelation, Says Schumacher

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya has not done enough to warrant being called one of the revelations of the Formula One season, according to World Champion Michael Schumacher.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya has not done enough to warrant being called one of the revelations of the Formula One season, according to World Champion Michael Schumacher.

"Montoya drives well but my brother has twice as many points," the Ferrari driver told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. "Ralf has won three Grands Prix, Montoya one. The revelations of the season are Heidfeld, Raikkonen, my brother. Not Montoya, he has not done enough.

"He has been very good, fast at Monza and Indy. But think about Hungary. He was never seen there."

Montoya, Ralf's Williams teammate, is in his debut Formula One season and won the first race of his career at the Italian Grand Prix. The Colombian, who was CART champion in North America in 1999, has 25 points to Ralf's 48.

He has also shown that he is not in awe of Michael Schumacher by overtaking him brilliantly on several occasions, including in Brazil in his third race of the year and at Indianapolis last weekend. Germany's Nick Heidfeld and Finland's Kimi Raikkonen, both drivers for Ferrari-powered Sauber, have not won any races this year but have helped the Swiss-based team to their best Formula One season yet.

Raikkonen, who arrived in Formula One this year after just 23 single seat car races, is joining McLaren next year as Mika Hakkinen's replacement.

Schumacher was also quoted as saying that his own Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello had no choice but to try and win the season-ending Japanese Grand Prix next week if he wanted to finish as overall runner-up. Barrichello is seven points adrift of McLaren's David Coulthard.

"He must win at Suzuka, hoping that David arrives out of the top five. It will be hard but we will try," said Schumacher, who wants to end the season in style at Suzuka, where he believes his team will be strong.

"Japan is a good circuit for us, so we can prove ourselves," he said. "You will see that we will be competitive again there, its another good opportunity to win a race, because our car should allow us to do this."
