Montagny faces intensive final testing

Franck Montagny will finalise his commitments to Renault with an intensive testing programme at the end of the year, before he parts ways with the team

Montagny, who has been driving for the French squad since 2003, is expected to be replaced by Finn Heikki Kovalainen as Renault's third driver next season after the Frenchman's contract runs out at the end of 2005.

Montagny, however, will get the chance to work for Renault again when testing resumes at the end of November.

The test driver will be the man in charge of kicking off an intensive tyre development programme for Michelin. Montagny is scheduled to test nine days between 30 November and 17 December.

World Champion Fernando Alonso and teammate Giancarlo Fisichella are also scheduled to test for one day before the end of the year in order to acclimatise to the reduced power levels expected in 2006.

Both men will test with a detuned V10 engine before the new car with the V8 unit makes its debut next year.

"Everybody is very keen to get back on track," said Technical Director Bob Bell. "We want to pick up and carry on exactly where we left off on Sunday evening in Shanghai."
