Money not the issue in Midland deal

Michiel Mol, the Dutch businessman who is hoping to buy the Midland Formula One team from current owner Alex Shnaider, claims money is not the stumbling block to a deal taking place

Mol, who founded the Internet company Lost Boys that sponsors Midland, has made a 100 million Euro offer to take over the team and is now awaiting a decision from Shnaider about whether he wants to sell the outfit.

A decision on that front could be made by this weekend's British Grand Prix, and Mol has confirmed that the ball is now firmly in Shnaider's court with the pair believed to have agreed financial terms.

Speaking to autosport.com, Mol said: "We have been talking for a number of weeks now and we have a deal in place.

"I have had lengthy discussions with Alex on this. He has to make up his mind now whether he wants to sell or not.

"But there is an offer on the table that is satisfactory for both of us. Money is not the issue, but as I stated earlier, he hasn't decided yet if he wants to sell."

Although the offer for Midland makes perfect financial sense for Shnaider, who is believed to have purchased the team for much less than is on offer at the moment, he has insisted that his love of the sport may overrule any hard business decision.

Mol has claimed that if he is successful in his takeover of the team then he has big ambitions for it.

"I have got many plans to take the team to the next level," he explained.

And although Lost Boys have backed Christijan Albers, Mol has made it clear that he will not tie the Dutchman to Midland in the future.

"I think he is a good driver and if he can't find a better seat we can always talk with him," he said.
