Michelin target Spanish GP fightback
Michelin F1 director Nick Shorrock is optimistic the French company can fight back at the Spanish Grand Prix following a shaky weekend at the Nurburgring
Shorrock admitted Michelin's tyre choice for the European Grand Prix had not been ideal, with the rubber proving too hard for the track's surface.
The race was won by the Bridgestone-shod Ferrari of Michael Schumacher.
Shorrock claimed their tyre choice cost their runners at least half a second per lap, but he is confident the situation will be rectified for the Barcelona race next weekend.
"The wind that hit the track before and during the race has probably changed the asphalt conditions, taking it back to a situation similar to what we had on Friday. Basically our tyres have demonstrated to be too hard for this weekend," Shorrock told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Let's say we've lacked at least half a second per lap. However in Spain we'll debut a new type of tyre with a different compound; these new tyres are the result of the analysis of certain problems that arose at Imola, so I think the situation can turn back in our favour there.
"We've known since the winter that the situation would have changed, with Bridgestone coming back strongly and not just because of the regulation changes. What we must do now is to work hard to supply our teams with products up to the task."
