Michelin promising 'intensive' effort

Michelin are promising an 'intensive' effort in testing at Monza this week in a bid to help Renault kill off Ferrari's title dreams

Fernando Alonso is 12 points clear of Michael Schumacher in the drivers' championship, but Renault are just two points ahead in the constructors' battle.

Ferrari appear to have had much of the advantage in terms of pace since the Canadian Grand Prix, but Renault hope that car developments, an upgraded engine and new tyres will change that situation from now on.

Michelin's F1 director Nick Shorrock claims his company have re-evaluated their approach to the season in a bid to boost their title hopes.

"We have got a very intensive week of testing coming up with our partner teams," said Shorrock about the Monza test. "We have been working flat out since the start of the year, but over the last races we have looked at the whole picture again - and come up with plenty of new answers.

"We are testing compounds, lots of constructions and looking at how our partner teams exploit the tyres. Along with Renault, we have done our maximum with Renault so far this year - and now we need to get to the finish line in first position."
