McNish Positive ahead of Home Grand Prix

Scot Allan McNish believes that his Toyota will be suited to perform well at Silverstone this weekend as he prepares to experience his first British Grand Prix.

Scot Allan McNish believes that his Toyota will be suited to perform well at Silverstone this weekend as he prepares to experience his first British Grand Prix.

McNish and Toyota will compete in the British Grand Prix for the first time as they enter the second half of the season. The 32-year-old believes the Toyota car will suit the high-speed Northamptonshire circuit and he hopes some home support will boost his performance.

"I actually think the car will be suited to Silverstone," McNish said. "It was quite good at the test so I'm looking forward to getting out on track."

The Toyota driver suffered a pinched nerve in his shoulder at the European Grand Prix nine days ago, but after undergoing treatment, the Scot said he is perfectly fit to race this weekend.

"I had a lot of physio on my shoulder after the last race and it is now fine," he said." I'm raring to go for my home race! It will be great to race in front of my own friends and family and fellow Scot David Coulthard tells me that the atmosphere on race day is pretty special, so I'm looking forward to that."

McNish said he can not understand drivers who have criticised Silverstone and insisted that it is one of the most special circuits on the calendar.

"The British Grand Prix is special if you're British and going through Becketts in a Formula One car is absolutely mental - it is awesome," he said. "If you go through the first four corners and say that it is not an enjoyable challenge then there is something wrong with you."
