McLaren Welcome BAR Return
McLaren's Formula One CEO Martin Whitmarsh is welcoming the return of the BAR team this weekend at the European Grand Prix
The Honda-powered team will be back in racing action this weekend after completing their two-race ban in Spain and Monaco.
And although Whitmarsh admits the controversy surrounding the BAR affair has been bad for the sport, the Briton is hoping their return will help McLaren in their fight with Renault.
"I think it is unfortunate for Formula One that it has happened, but the reality is they are back, they are a serious team and this whole incident has been bad for Formula One but we have to put it behind us," Whitmarsh said.
"We do enough other things to tear ourselves apart, we have to concentrate on trying to build the environment to prosper as a sport.
"Certainly for McLaren, BAR are welcome back, we hope they are competitive and we hope they are competitive to defeat Renault and not beat us."
Renault are the current leaders in the Constructors' Championship, 12 points ahead of McLaren, winners of the last two races thanks to Kimi Raikkonen.
