McLaren to Continue with Old Car in Monaco

Formula One Championship pacesetters McLaren will test their new car for the first time this week but will not risk racing it at the June 1 Monaco Grand Prix.
"There is no logic to bringing a new car to Monaco, no matter how quick it is," said McLaren boss Ron Dennis, whose team led the Championship before Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.
"(Monaco) is very much a drivers' circuit and the car's performance does play a role but what you need is total reliability, a known quantity. I don't think that it would be the smart thing to do even if we were equipped to race (the new car) there."
Dennis said the development of the new car, due to be run out for the first time at the Le Castellet circuit in southern France on Wednesday, remained on target.
"We will only race it as and when we feel comfortable with its reliability and performance," he said.
McLaren won the last Monaco Grand Prix with Briton David Coulthard.
