McLaren: Montoya will Bounce Back

McLaren are confident that Juan Pablo Montoya will bounce back from his disappointing return to Formula One at the Spanish Grand Prix by being a major threat for victory in Monaco next weekend

The Colombian, who missed the Bahrain and San Marino Grands Prix with a shoulder injury, suffered a practice crash, a race spin and a refuelling problem during an eventful weekend in Barcelona as teammate Kimi Raikkonen roared to victory.

But despite failing to match his teammate's pace in Spain, McLaren's F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh is adamant that Montoya will be back to his best in Monte Carlo.

"He hasn't been in the car for a while and he's not been as consistent as he'd want to be," said Whitmarsh in this week's Autosport. "It was a bloody good effort to get back in harness, and I'm sure by Monaco he'll be back on form.

"Juan likes Monaco, so hopefully we've got two drivers going there with a belief that they can win."

He added: "The accident was very ill-timed, because it's disrupted him from getting into the swing of things. This was always going to be a difficult race for him - it's physically very demanding but now he's got it behind him.

"Juan's got a test in Paul Ricard this week, and I think he'll go to Monaco in good shape. He's got a respectable starting position in first qualifying in Monaco, and we all know that's going to be vital."
