McLaren drivers Mika Hakkinen and Alexander Wurz were more than a second faster than anyone else on the first day of testing at the Valencia circuit on Saturday.

Hakkinen was fastest with a best lap of 1:14.66, more than three tenths of a second quiker than McLaren's test driver Wurz.

Luciano Burti drove the Michelin-shod Jaguar R2 today, setting the third quickest time of the session more than a second behind Hakkinen. Jaguar will spend five days at Valencia, where they will test for the final time before flying to Melbourne for the first race of the season.

The Arrows team, who left Estoril on Friday due to the bad weather, also began testing today at the Spanish track, with Enrique Bernoldi, at the wheel of the A21, ending the session in front of Jos Verstappen, who could only complete seven laps driving the new A22.

Testing at Valencia will resume tomorrow.
