McLaren Duo Dominate at Valencia - Day Two

Finn Kimi Raikkonen was quickest on the second day of testing at the Valencia circuit, where the McLaren team dominated the session.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen was quickest on the second day of testing at the Valencia circuit, where the McLaren team dominated the session.

Raikkonen, who had already gone fastest in the morning, failed to improve on his previous best but still was able to finish more than four tenths of a second ahead of McLaren's test driver Alexander Wurz, who completed a good day of work for the Woking-based team.

Juan Pablo Montoya, fastest on the first day, had to settle for third with his BMW-Williams, the Colombian finishing nearly a second behind Raikkonen after 67 laps. Montoya was again the fastest of the four Williams drivers on track today, outpacing Giorgio Pantano, test driver Marc Gene and Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi, who made his Formula One debut today.

21-year old Liuzzi, who completed a strong season in the German Formula Three Championship this season, finished as eighth quickest after 28 laps at the wheel of the FW24. The Williams drivers caused four of the six red flags in today's session, while Raikkonen and Sauber's Nick Heidfeld caused the other two after going off the track.

"There was not any damage to the car after my spin and we were able to continue the program and have another productive day to continue gathering data to be ready for next season," explained Heidfeld, seventh fastest.

The Minardi team continued testing with Sergey Zlobin and Matteo Bobbi, the young Italian outpacing the Russian driver by more than three seconds. It was the final day of work at Valencia for the Anglo-Italian squad.

"I am very happy with today's test, although I only completed a relatively small number of laps," said Bobbi. "I managed to set a very good time considering that my fastest lap here last year was 1 minute 18 seconds with the same car.

"I used the PS01-02 chassis, which Franck (Montagny) drove yesterday, and after some initial changes to the set-up, I was able to get on the pace without any problem."

Testing continues on Thursday.
