McLaren aims to finish with a flurry

The McLaren team is looking to finish the remainder of the 2001 season on a high in order to come back fighting next year - starting at this weekend's Belgium Grand Prix

After being beaten to both the drivers' and constructors' championships this year by main rival Ferrari, the Woking-based team still wants to win and has four races still to run this year.

"The championships are over," said McLaren team boss Ron Dennis, "but we are determined to move forward and get the best out of the rest of the season and prepare ourselves for 2002. The entire team wants to win the race at Spa and we are looking forward to a good weekend."

Mika Hakkinen won at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit last year after taking pole position and overtaking Michael Schumacher around the inside of Ricardo Zonta.

Hakkinen and team mate David Coulthard will do well to pull off such a feat this weekend, but the Finn is hoping the notorious Ardennes weather plays into his hands.

"Set-up is crucial at Spa and often has to be a compromise," said Hakkinen. "It can be dry on one part of the circuit and raining on another. I have very good memories of last year's race, which I really enjoyed and it would be nice to take victory again."
