Lewis Hamilton believes F1 fans are wrong to boo Sebastian Vettel

Lewis Hamilton says fans are wrong to boo Sebastian Vettel, and that no driver should be criticised for being dominant

Following the German's third consecutive victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, he faced yet another bout of heckling from the crowd under the podium.

Hamilton says he is disappointed that spectators are reacting that way.

"Booing is just such a negative thing, especially when someone works so hard to be successful," said Hamilton.

"No one should ever be booed for their success, no matter how easy or hard it has been for them to get to where they are.

"I saw a glimpse of him on the podium and I was happy for him.

"I tried to imagine what it would be like if I was winning races as easy as he has been winning them."

Vettel's current dominance of F1, allied to his actions in Malaysia when he defied team orders to steal victory from team-mate Mark Webber, are believed to be the two factors that have made him unpopular with a section of fans.

Hamilton made it clear that he would not enjoy having the kind of car advantage that Vettel currently has, but he reckons that the German and his Red Bull team only deserve credit for what they have done.

"It's every driver's dream to have a car to be able to fight," Hamilton said.

"Me, I don't want to be that far ahead. I want to be able to fight with him, or whoever.

"It's definitely not a positive thing to hear he has been booed.

"He's on his way to his fourth world championship, and he needs all the credit he deserves."
