Klien confident of landing F1 seat

Christian Klien says he is optimistic that he will secure his Formula One future within the next fortnight following the latest talks with teams at Interlagos this weekend

As revealed by autosport.com, the former Red Bull Racing driver decided to make the trip to Brazil to try and finalise his plans for the future. His only options are a race seat with Spyker-MF1 or a test drive at Honda Racing.

Speaking at Interlagos, Klien said he was confident that things would be settled soon - and definitely before winter testing resumes in December.

"It is looking OK," he told autosport.com. "I have talked here to those teams who have a car available for next year, and it is looking quite positive.

"I am looking at both options to decide which is the best way. I think in the next two or three weeks we should have a decision."

Klien thinks that either the Spyker race seat or the Honda testing roles would be good for him.

"Spyker have clearly shown that they want to move forward. They signed the Ferrari deal and Mike Gascoyne, and I spoke to the Spyker people again today and they are really motivated and want to bring the car forward.

"With my three years of experience I feel I can help the team for sure. I know that I am quick and it could be a very good solution for both of us.

"But I am also talking to Honda as well. It can look good for me I think. That is why we are here, to see which is a good way to go."

Although Klien turned down the offer of a Red Bull-backed drive in Champ Cars for next season, he has not completely ruled out racing in the United States if his F1 chances do not come off.

"That would be plan B," he said. "If neither of my F1 options are possible, then that would be a possibility."
