Jordan Seeks Better Luck at Japanese GP

Eddie Jordan is hoping for a change of fortune for his team in what he says will be a 'vital' season-ending Japanese Formula One Grand Prix at Suzuka.

Eddie Jordan is hoping for a change of fortune for his team in what he says will be a 'vital' season-ending Japanese Formula One Grand Prix at Suzuka.

"We were really unlucky at Indianapolis with the decision to exclude Jarno (Trulli)'s car," the Irish team owner said. "It must be our turn for some good luck soon and I'm hoping it will have an impression in Japan.

"This final Grand Prix is vital for Jordan as we want to score sufficient points to win fourth place regardless of the outcome of our appeal against the disqualification."

Trulli lost his fourth place at the last U.S. Grand Prix when the worn skid block under his car failed a post-race inspection. Jordan have appealed but no date has been given for a hearing.

Pending the appeal, Jordan and Honda-powered rivals British American Racing are level on 17 points. Sauber are five points ahead of them in fourth place overall in the Constructors' Championship. Ferrari and Germany's Michael Schumacher have already won the two world titles.

"The Japanese Grand Prix is a key race in the calendar for us because of our partnerships with Honda, Bridgestone and Brother Industries," said Jordan. "I'm convinced fourth place is still within reach, although for sure it will be a tough fight for the last points."

Sunday's race will also be Trulli's last for Jordan before moving to Renault, formerly Benetton, in 2002. The Italian has been with Jordan for two years. Race team manager Jim Vale is also heading back home to Australia after six years with Jordan.
