Jordan begins search for new driver

Eddie Jordan has admitted he is drawing up a list of possible replacements for Damon Hill

'I will be making it my business now to make a shortlist of four or five drivers that I think will suit the Jordan style of things,' he said.

'They may not be top driver at the present moment, but drivers we believe would respond to the kind of atmosphere inside Jordan that would give them and us the best shot.'

The team boss claimed he would not rule out bring in a young driver from another formula in Japan or America.

British F1 drivers Eddie Irvine and David Coulthard have been suggested as possibilities for the Jordan seat.

At the Canadian Grand Prix, Eddie Jordan and Irvine joked about the possibility of getting back together.

Irvine has made no secret of his desire to win more races - something that he will not be allowed to do freely at Ferrari.

Mika Salo, who stood in for injured Ricardo Zonta at BAR earlier this season, has also expressed an interest in the seat.

'Jordan's a good team and I would be happy to go there,' he told AUTOSPORT Online.

Salo brought home the rookie team's best two results of the season, finishing seventh in San Marino and eighth in Barcelona.
