Jarno Trulli Q&A
With two races of the season gone it's apparent that Renault has pulled clear of Jordan, BAR and Jaguar and is now in a position to challenge Sauber for 'best of the rest' honour. Jarno Trulli briefly ran ahead of Michael Schumacher in Australia, while at the Malaysian GP Jenson Button was heading for a podium finish before dropping back to fourth right at the end. Reliability is still an issue, but the pace is clearly there, and on days when Michelin has an advantage Renault can aim for points. Adam Cooper spoke to Trulli about the Malaysian weekend
"It was a disappointing weekend actually. I had a problem on my car which we found out only on Sunday morning, and then after that it was OK."
"The oil temperature was very, very high after one lap. They called me on the radio and told me to stay on the track, but I was definitely losing one or two seconds a lap. Then they called me in. They tried to see if there was anything wrong in the radiators or whatever, and then sent me out again."
"In the race I was right behind Jenson, but only for one lap, and then I disappeared. I was already slowing down."
"Yes of course. It was encouraging already in the morning, because all weekend Jenson's car was feeling good, and then when I found out the problem definitely we went quicker, and our cars were fourth and sixth in the warm-up. I was very happy in the morning, and we did expect a good race. But we didn't expect that everybody else would not be so competitive. We knew that we were going to one stop, and we didn't expect so many cars to do two stops."
"I think in certain conditions we can do a good job. It's very promising, because the team is working very well. They are putting a lot of effort in, doing a great job, and I'm confident that through the season we can really do good things."
"It was really disappointing for him and I'm really sorry for him, because losing a podium finish with one and a half laps to go is really bad. I've experienced something like that in the past, so I know what he felt. I think he deserved a podium, but we will get some more chances in the future."
"I really hope so. The car has a good balance, and normally there it runs very well. And Michelin is bringing new tyres, so everything looks very well."
