Jag seeks constant progress
Jaguar managing director David Pitchforth has set the team the target of taking continuous steps forward throughout the season, as it bids to build on the momentum of last season
At the beginning of 2003, Pitchforth set his team the goal of achieving respectability in the face of its troubled first three seasons in F1. With this target now met, Pitchforth believes it is time for Jaguar to move to the "next level."
"We have worked tirelessly over the winter season to ensure that we arrive in Melbourne as prepared as we can be," said Pitchforth. "We are looking to make improvements this year on track but we are under no illusions. The competition is as determined as ever and I know that we need to make continuous steps forward if we are to see a difference by the end of the season.
"We achieved our target of 'respectability' in 2003 and we are now looking to take this momentum onto the next level by ensuring the continuous development of the R5 over the course of eighteen races."
Lead driver Mark Webber believes that a good team spirit and engine reliability could be crucial to making a step forward this season.
"The winter testing session has been very productive for us and we have learnt a lot about the R5," said Webber. "The balance and handling are very good and I am extremely happy with the progress that we have made on this car.
"I've never been closer to the team and we're working very hard together to get the best out of the car in the early part of the season. Reliability is going to be crucial in Melbourne, it's a tough race and with the one-engine rule, reliability will be key."
