Jag boss says cat must take leap forward

Neil Ressler, chairman of Jaguar Racing, has said he will not tolerate a repeat of last year's poor performance in 2001

The Milton Keynes-based outfit will undergo major changes before the Formula 1 season begins again in March and, according to this week's Autosport magazine, Ressler believes his team will do everything possible to ensure success next year.

"I would say that there would be no excuse that even we could believe, never mind anybody else, that would justify a season next year like this one," said Ressler. "There isn't a person in the factory who would settle for that - and that goes from me right down to the guy driving the fork-lift truck. We will do better, a lot better."

Jaguar scored just four points this year and finished ahead of only Minardi and Prost in the constructors' standings. The American has already made several new appointments for next year, the first being Champ Car boss Bobby Rahal, who will start as the team's CEO on December 1, and aerodynamicist Mark Handford has been recruited from Lola Cars.

Rumours suggest that Gary Anderson's position as technical director could also be under threat (Autosport.com 15/11/00) although Jaguar strenuously deny that the Irishman is to be replaced.
