Irvine Confident New Car Will Boost Jaguar

Irishman Eddie Irvine is confident that Jaguar's new car for next season will prove the critics wrong and boost the team up the grid after a disappointing 2001 campaign.

Irishman Eddie Irvine is confident that Jaguar's new car for next season will prove the critics wrong and boost the team up the grid after a disappointing 2001 campaign.

Irvine, who has continually complained of a poor qualifying package this season, believes the team's new car for 2002 will be a big improvement and will help rejuvenate the outfit.

"Next year's car, you won't recognise it compared to this thing," said Irvine. "It's going to be a big step forward from this, but that's not really saying a lot.

"We have upped the targets a bit in the last week because I think the targets for next year were maybe a bit too low, and I think the guys are having to go back and work a bit harder to get to a level."

Jaguar, who have scored only five points in fourteen races so far this year, will need to improve to beat the Arrows team next season as they will also be supplied with Cosworth engines and will provide stiff opposition in the mid-field.
