Eddie Irvine claimed on Friday that Jenson Button is holding talks with Jaguar over a drive for 2003 because he is being "pushed out" of Renault.
Ulsterman Irvine is yet to open talks with Jaguar over a new deal and Button reportedly held talks with the Milton Keynes-based team earlier this week as they explore options available to them.
Irvine claimed that Button is being forced to look for alternative drives for 2003 with Williams unlikely to hand him a role and Renault, where he is in the second year of a two-year loan spell, pushing him out.
"It's hardly a secret," Irvine said of Button's talks with Jaguar. "I heard that Jenson is getting pushed out of Renault so he has to go somewhere. I'm sure he will be up and down the pitlane trying to get anywhere he can."
Jaguar will test Minardi's Australian driver Mark Webber next week in Barcelona as part of their plans for 2003. Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa has a contract for next year.
