I Will be World Champion, Says Sato

Japanese driver Takuma Sato sent a message to his Formula One rivals on Wednesday when he paid his first visit to the Jordan team's Silverstone headquarters, claiming he will be World Champion in the future.

24-year old Sato was signed up by Jordan from Honda-powered rivals British American Racing, where he was a test driver this season. And now the Japanese start is determined to repay the faith of the Honda-backed squad.

"I will be World Champion," said Sato. "Winning Formula One is my last target. I want to develop myself little by little, step by step. Then one day, if I have the opportunity, I will take it.

"It is not going to happen immediately. I just want to concentrate on my job and hopefully soon I will reach the same level as my teammate Giancarlo Fisichella. That is my biggest target for next year."

Sato became the first Japanese driver to win the British Formula Three title with a record of 12 victories in the 2001 season.
