Heidfeld stays positive

Flying bodywork and tempermental cars gave the Jordan squad a busy first day's practice at Hockenheim on Friday as it prepared for Sunday's German Grand Prix

Test driver Timo Glock caused the team's first problems when he ran wide over the kerbs at Turn 1. The German's front wing subsequently detached causing which stopped the session while the mess was cleared. Glock's car was repaired only for it to stop due to a problem with the anti-stall system on the car.

While no parts flew off Nick Heidfeld's car, the German failed to find a satisfactory balance on his EJ14 which left him behind two of the Minardis in the second practice session.

"After a reasonable start to the first session with some good adjustments to the car, unfortunately the changes we made for the second session didn't improve it," he said. "We tried to come back on some of those things towards the end of the afternoon and I did a fairly long run to get some information for the tyres. I'm sure that we can progress in time for tomorrow."

Team-mate Giorgio Pantano did not escape problems either. "This morning we had problems with rear locking but by the time the session ended we had understood what to do and changed something on the rear and on the brake side," he said. "In the second session the car improved quite a bit and I think we can probably get even better on the lap time."

Jordan has confirmed that DTM championship leader Dutchman Christijan Albers will test for the team at Silverstone on 15 September (Click HERE for separate story).
