Heidfeld Outpaces BAR Duo at Valencia - Day Two

German Nick Heidfeld posted the quickest time on the second day of testing at the Valencia circuit, where the Sauber and BAR teams are carrying out a four-day programme.

German Nick Heidfeld posted the quickest time on the second day of testing at the Valencia circuit, where the Sauber and BAR teams are carrying out a four-day programme.

Heidfeld took over from test driver Neel Jani and finished more than half a second ahead of Briton Jenson Button. Heidfeld concentrated on tyre testing and aerodynamics work.

"We dedicated the test day to the selection of the front wing for the next race and also did some set-up for Monaco," said Sauber's race engineer Remi Decorzent. "Furthermore we worked with Bridgestone on the tyre choice for Montreal. Nick covered many laps and so we were able to gather a lot of data which we need to confirm tomorrow.

"We have tested some new parts today and as far as I can say at the moment we believe to have found some slight improvements. But this needs further data verification too."

Button and teammate Jacques Villeneuve replaced test drivers Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato as the Brackley-based outfit continued working on improving the reliability of their 005 chassis. Button was the busiest man on track today, covering more than 500 kilometres.

Testing continues tomorrow.
