Happy Raikkonen stays cautious for race

Kimi Raikkonen is targeting his first win in over a year after seizing a dominant pole position at the Australian Grand Prix

The Finn, in his first race with Ferrari, emerged on top of the times with a best lap of 1:26.072, beating world champion Fernando Alonso by over four tenths of a second to complete a perfect start to life at the Italian team.

The day wasn't so perfect for Ferrari, however, as Raikkonen's teammate Felipe Massa was hit by gearbox problems and missed the cut for the final qualifying session.

Raikkonen is confident he can win on Sunday but, following Massa's problems, the Finn is staying cautious with his predictions.

"I think we have a good package, we are confident for the race and as long as everything works well and we don't have any problems we should be okay, but so many things can happen," said Raikkonen.

"We do the best we can and hopefully we can win, but for sure the others will try and beat us. It will be close but we will do the best we can."

He added: "It has been good. Yesterday was not perfect, the weather was a big issue, but today we found a good set-up for the car.

"Unfortunately we didn't have as good a result as we wanted as a team, as Felipe had some problems, but hopefully we can sort them out."

Brazilian Massa will start the race from 16th place after coming to a halt during his flying lap in the second session.
